How to Book Your G1 Test at DriveTest
Booking
G1 and M1 knowledge tests are booked through DriveTest, Ontario's official testing agency. You can book online at DriveTest.ca or by phone. Some DriveTest centres also accept walk-ins, but booking ahead saves waiting.
What to bring
- A piece of valid identification — e.g. passport, birth certificate, permanent resident card, or an Ontario photo card.
- Glasses or contacts if you need them for the vision test.
- Payment for the test fee.
On test day
- Check in at the counter with your ID.
- Complete the vision screening.
- Sit the knowledge test on a touchscreen — 40 questions for G1, 64 for M1.
- Get your result immediately. Pass and you're issued your licence (G1 cards come from ServiceOntario).
If you don't pass
No problem — you can retake the test. Pay the fee again and rebook whenever you're ready. Use the practice tests here until you're consistently scoring 90%+ to be safe.
